Ovarian Reserve Test

What is the Ovarian Reserve test?

This Ovarian Reserve test measures Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), a hormone produced by the ovaries that helps to control the growth and maturation of the eggs. To keep levels healthy, it's important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating a well-balanced diet, getting regular exercise, and managing stress. AMH levels are tested to check for any imbalances that may affect a woman's fertility. If you have any concerns or symptoms related to your fertility, it's important to speak with your doctor.

What biomarkers are measured in this test?

  • Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH)

Who should take this test?

Ovarian Reserve testing is recommended for women who are experiencing infertility, or who are planning to start a family in the near future. Women over the age of 35, or those with a family history of early menopause, may also find the test useful. It is important to note that this test is not a guarantee of future fertility, but rather an important tool in understanding a woman's reproductive potential.

How often should I take this test?

Women with irregular periods may benefit from repeating the test after 6 weeks. Other women may wish to take this test annually as part of their overall reproductive health evaluation.

What could results out of range (abnormal) mean?

A low AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) blood test result can indicate a lower egg reserve in a woman's ovaries, which may make it more difficult for her to become pregnant. This can be caused by a number of factors, such as age or certain medical conditions. Your doctor may recommend fertility treatments such as IVF (in-vitro fertilisation) or suggest you to seek specialist for further evaluation.

What could results in range (normal) mean?

A normal AMH level indicates that a woman's egg reserve is within a healthy range and she may have a better chance of becoming pregnant naturally. However even if you have a normal AMH level it's important to speak with your doctor if you have any concerns or symptoms related to your fertility.

How can I improve my results?

There is nothing specifically you can do to increase your ovarian reserve, largely this is determined by genetics; although following a healthy lifestyle, stopping smoking, and maintaining a healthy weight is recommended.

What other tests could I consider?

Patients suffering from weight changes may also benefit from a test for Diabetes and Thyroid problems.
